The Environmental Health Centre is located at 3 Main Road, Boolaroo and provides a number of free services aimed at reducing blood lead levels.
These services include routine blood testing; information and education programs to parents, schools and community groups; case management for families where children have elevated blood lead levels; high efficiency particle (HEPA) vacuum cleaner loan service and remediation activities aimed at reducing the exposure to lead within the community.
One of the most noticable strategies being used over the next few years toward 2000 is Zonal Remediation. This will involve removing ceiling dust, remediating soils and removing lead dust from carpets in up to 600 houses in the North Lake Macquarie area. It provides a fair and equitable outcome for all residents, it delivers a sustainable benefit to all residents, and maximises the environmental health benefits to residents well past the year 2000.
