CHAMBER NOTES
Our Centenary year is bringing great value with the Boolaroo/Speers Point Chamber of Commerce analysing its membership structure and reducing fees for 1998. The Chamber has been seeking advice and listening to its members as well as local businesses and a new fee has been introduced which is set on a calendar year rather than on the financial year.

The new fee is a flat $30 no matter what size of business and by joining now it gives all local businesses the opportunity of being active in Chamber affairs in 1998. Existing members will have their membership extended from June this year to December.

The Chamber is already working hard and is supporting the Boolaroo 3 hour Bargain Sale on Saturday 4 April, the Childrens' Festival being held in Speers Point Park on Sunday April 5 while planning for the Boolaroo Family Fair in November. We are also in contact with the Lake Macquarie City Council about the Main Street programme and are awaiting the appointment of a new Heritage Officer to continue that good work. All in all, a busy programme for 1988 and we look forward to all businesses being part of activities. For those who want to join the Chamber please contact our secretary, Carol Springall at Boolaroo Post Office on 49 581983. Good Shopping!

Kerry Freer
President

The shoppers who were in town from Toronto and have repeated their business twice since then. LETTERS
"Re Banking facilities - Boolaroo"
I read your publication with interest as having been a resident of Boolaroo for 13 years, when the Co-op Store was still trading, and Argenton for 4 years it is a sad sign of the times to see no banks, building societies or credit unions left. The only bill paying outlet for people who wish to do business locally is the Post Office retail outlet. I would support a move to have a local office of "something" where you don't have to do business with a machine in a wall if you are in Boolaroo as I am five days a week.
