Munibung Hill - (compact)

Munibung Hill, seen in the left of the picture, is Boolaroo's most famous landmark. One of the highest points East of Sugarloaf Range, it and the smaller neighbouring hills and valleys harbour a surprising amount of animal life. While over the past 100 years developers have been keen to exploit its beauty and vantage point overlooking Lake Macquarie, environmental concerns have so far aided resistance to change to this small but significant island surrounded by a sea of houses and factories.
Even up to 60 years ago native animals such as the platypus and wallaby could be found in the area surrounding Munibung. Today, the remaining habitat supports foxes, rabbits, possums, and bats. The fact that the larger animal species, even the introduced "pests", have found a place to survive in this densly populated coastal fringe should be considered a success by any standards.
